2.12 - Camera Movement

2/12/2019

This week we are practicing more with camera movement. This is the purposeful and meaningful use of moving the camera in order to aide the emotive narrative of your work. Remember, anything you do should only really reinforce or add to the story, so this is just practice, but it is well worth trying to do some different things to reinforce what you are trying to share.

HOMEWORK
  • Create a 30-60 second edit using specific camera movement (not handheld)
    • Use tools you have at your disposal
    • More advanced students - see if you can create a specific set of motion that feeds an emotion/mood you are trying to create and be ready to specifically address what you were trying to do.
    • Please, always consider taking extra time to learn about camera movement and other skills through different online services (YouTube, etc.)

IN CLASS
  • We discussed the importance of good storytelling:
    • Background - Problem - Solution - Lesson
  • We learned different cuts and when we might want to use them
  • We checked out the great stories that are shared on Great Big Story (some 'colorful' for sure)

CONSIDERATIONS
  • Remember, there doesn't always need to be a real 'problem'. It is all about framing the story and what the people have done to overcome that issue.

HOMEWORK
  • Make sure you have identified what your dramatic reading will be.
    • Consider
      • poetry
      • music lyrics
      • other short spoken-word type pieces
